The Greatest

The Greatest

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

1Corinthians 13:13

These final words from a very familiar scripture often read at weddings and sometimes even funerals are meant to be final.

So if we take those three words faith, hope, and love- we see three very powerful forces in the life of any human, no matter their religion or belief or ideology.

Faith- the personal assurance one gives one’s self in moments both dire and mundane. Moving into the unknown is sometimes gut wrenching. Having faith convinces you that your gut is merely a foolish distraction. Moving into the unknown can also be thrilling. Having faith convinces you that your every move satisfies the need to be bold.

Hope- a desire, based on a dream and not necessarily fact. Life is so often filled with little defeats but hope casts them aside so that our dream cannot die. Hope can also serve as a springboard when we’ve never tried to achieve a task but find barriers teasing us to abandon our task.

Love- a power so great that personal safety is often tossed aside to in order to experience the connection with another human. Love is an emotion which drives us to put to the side rational decision making. Love- the magnet which draws to souls together, Love- an elixir to soothe fears and pain and anxiety and aching desire.

Love can take faith and hope and use them for its own purpose, where hope and faith can only wish to employ love.

So, gather the power to love so that hope and faith may never be the final words, and that love instead comes roaring from within to power them to new heights.

My love to you,

Rev Ken
