You
“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”
― Oscar Wilde
I like to remind everyone at the beginning of our worship services- “Whoever you are, wherever you are on life’s journey, you’re welcome here. We believe each of you are a unique and beloved child of God’s own creating.”
So we know that no two people are exactly alike, like a snowflake each of us is a beautiful creation all on our own. We have seen that identical twins LOOK like one another, but they have their own interests. And there is such a thing as some people having a doppelganger- that is, another person who looks very much like them. But again, these people have different interests and they sound different.
But then there is a tendency to want to be more like another person. Sometimes we don’t know who to be ourselves. And other times we like someone so much we emulate that person. But in the end we really can’t be exactly like that person, we usually have too many differences.
But it’s the desire to be or be like someone else that might become problematic. It’s great to take the good qualities of someone and to practice that. But there comes a time when we have to be ourself. Us, we, me…. It’s something so different and interesting that we should allow it to be and never worry that we’re not good enough.
Self-esteem sometimes gets in the way. And so, God wants you to know how wonderful you are so that feelings of inadequacy can be shed and the uniqueness that is you can shine.
So, we believe that each of you is a unique and beloved child of God’s own creating.
I invite you to settle in to exactly who you are, and to surprise the heck out of us with your glory.
We’ll see you in the “YOU” Hall of Fame.
Rev. Ken
