Surf and Turf

“I am the shore and the ocean, awaiting myself on both sides.”
―
Dejan Stojanovic, The Shape

Isn’t that an expansive possibility? Could you be part of something and at the same time, be all of it as well? -It may be a way to take advantage of some situation. Like, being a committee of one! You can come up with an idea and then no one can vote you down!

However, this little quote speaks to a way of being that serves rather than steals; it provides someone who may feel as if they are stuck in one way of seeing themselves with a gentle way out of their conundrum.

But I can also hear someone saying, “that’s too hippy-dippy, too feel good and a way of doing things where EVERYONE gets a trophy and no one is rewarded for hard work.” I can see that opinion, but, to that I answer in another well-worn quote, “try walking a mile in another man’s shoes.”

Life is often a series of difficult decisions where we believe we have to hold firm to one way or the other. But, not all things have to be this way. I believe that there are certain things in the Bible that I think are Ab. So. Lute.! But then again, some other things sound fishy. I don’t think God loves me less, or, that I love God less because of that. After all, the Bible is only human’s way of recording the unrecordable. So, I can be or feel two things at one time. Christians like to describe God as more than one thing at a time in the idea of the Divinity- 3 in 1, 1 in 3.

I feel fortunate to feel both part of the ocean and part of the shore. Too watch myself ebb and flow, and to see that at times I am firmly set. This flexibility provides me with a way to offer myself grace- as I am both things I am bound to offer myself forgiveness if I am to thrive.

My friend, be fluid and be set. Do not allow anyone to make you be one thing, especially what they want you to be. Grab hold of the best qualities you know you are and enjoy the view!
