Well Reviewed

“Yelling at living things does tend to kill the spirit in them. Sticks and stones may break our bones, but words will break our hearts...”
―
Robert Fulghum

Have you gone looking for a product, or, a new restaurant? These days there are reviews of products and services on nearly every web site. Cell phone apps such as “Yelp” were created for people like you and me to review restaurants, stores, doctors, and all kind of retail opportunities. Listed is the business at hand, their hours of operation, directions, and then a review of the service they provide and/or the product they sell.

So local people review the places after they complete their transactions. Sometimes they just leave a number or star rating, and most other times they go at length writing about their experience.

By now however, most regular users are jaded by the fact that businesses often bloat the reviews with fake, positive reviews. Experienced users know to scan the many reviews to find answers which seem to report more relaxed and unforced compliments, or criticisms.

How would you like for there to be an app on people’s cell phones to review you? What would people say? Would they be honest? Would you pay people to write good reviews of your behavior?

We can never guarantee that others understand us or that we are effectively able to present ourselves in the way we would best want others to talk about us. So, I suppose we shouldn’t worry too much about that and instead concentrate on one person to give us a review- our God. I don’t think God likes to use sticks and stones and instead loves affirmations and praises. Yes, though we usually think that praising God should be part of God’s day, I bet God would rather be sending it back our way.

As kind reviews are what we want from God, maybe it would be best to make it easy for God- and offer our kindest behavior to others. Reserve the sticks and the stones, hold back on the yelling, and may the hearts of others never be broken by our words and actions.

Yelp review of YOU:

*****

He/She was prompt and approached me with a positive attitude, took the time to remember my name, and just couldn’t tell me how nice I looked. I give this person two thumbs up!
