Good

"Good"

“The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us.”

C.S. Lewis

In the Book of Genesis we read, “God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good.” From the beginning of time according to the Hebrew Scriptures, God saw that all God had created was “very good”.  The other day I was watching a man’s presentation and he had a t-shirt on that said, “I don’t know any bad people, I only see bad decisions.”

I’m fairly certain that God feels the same way. Despite the later story where God destroys the whole of earth except for Noah, his family, and 2 of every animal, God still felt that all God created was good. I think God wanted a do-over though, with a new frame of mind. So God did that. And since then our Hebrew and Christian scriptures don’t tell us of any further destruction.

It seems though that destruction can come from our own doing. We see it every day. Bad decisions turn lives upside down. Sometimes they continue on in a cycle of disrepair and torment. But in other times we can accept that we were wrong and move into a mode of renewal and a place that God sees as a better direction- Good Orderly Direction- GOD.

That’s our chance every day, to review our decisions, to make amends for our wrongs, to celebrate our good decisions and to seek God in all that we do.

And God will rejoice. May you do also!
